Karen Bauer (PhD, Princeton) is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London. Her book Gender Hierarchy in the Qur'an: Medieval Interpretations, Modern Responses was runner-up for the BKFS book prize, 2016. She has published on the history of textual interpretation of the Qur'an (tafsīr), on women and gender in Islam, and, most recently, on emotions in the Qur'an and in early Islamic history.
